Our Vineyard
Sue and Robin will be more
than pleased to take you on a tour of the vineyard and garden during
your stay, glass in hand!
Our Wine
Wine tastings can be arranged at Clearview Lodge for
larger groups, with the cost depending upon numbers. There is no charge
for in-house guests and, as responsible hosts, we serve a variety of
tasty treats including cheese platter with homemade Pinot Noir jelly
and quince paste, nuts and fruits which we grow (in season) and bread
served with our olive oil and home made Dukkah.
Tasting Notes
For Clements Estate 2006
Clearwater Ave Pinot Noir - courtesy of Michael Hasler from Wanaka
Lakehouse (www.wanakalakehouse.co.nz).
Colour: Light-medium blush red.
Nose: Fresh aroma of strawberries,
violets & beaujolais nouveaux/carbonique esters with a slightly
earthy sweet hay complexity.
Palate: Sweetly fruited with a youthful
acidity which, combining with oak tannins, provides a meduim weight
palate and a somewhat puckering finish; the overall balance is good and
needs some years to harmonise the slightly austere structure.
A pleasant after taste of citrous & strawberries.
Wine Tours
As hosted accommodation we
are happy to help you with your activity plans and can provide maps,
brochures and advice. If you have a keen interest in wine, we can
arrange for you to be picked up from Clearview Lodge and tour the
vineyards of the Waipara Valley for the afternoon (bookings essential).
Our guests have enjoyed tours with Discovery Travel (www.discoverytravel.co.nz),
Adventure Canterbury (www.adventurecanterbury.co.nz)
and Canterbury Wine Tours Ltd (www.waiparavalley.co.nz).
There are four tours to choose from depending on the time available and
budget. Each of these companies visit a number of different wineries
and all include wine tastings and some include lunch.
Alternatively,
you could visit one or two vineyards on a self-drive day trip to
Waipara and maybe on to Hanmer (90 minutes drive North) or Akaroa (also
90 minutes drive but East). If you wish to drive yourself, we have
information from the Waipara valley wine growers (www.waiparawine.co.nz) and
the North Canterbury Food and Wine trail
(www.foodandwinetrail.co.nz).
If you are venturing further around New Zealand you may find Wines of
NZ (www.winesofnz.com) a useful
resource.
